Patience — Key West, Florida
The great blue heron is North America's largest wading bird, and in the Florida Keys it is everywhere — standing in the shallows, motionless for minutes at a time, waiting with a focus that looks almost meditative. This image was made in Key West, where the line between land and water dissolves into mangrove and flat, and the herons move through it all as if they own it.
What the camera catches here is the contradiction at the heart of the species: a bird that is simultaneously enormous and delicate. The slate-blue and grey plumage, the long head plumes, the piercing eye and the dagger bill — all of it rendered in the warm, low light of the Keys, which gives the image a richness that the bird's northern range rarely offers.
At 24×36″, the plumage, the piercing eye and the bird's commanding posture are all fully expressed — a print with genuine presence that works as naturally in a coastal home as it does in a corporate or hospitality setting.
Available in two gallery-quality configurations — a silver halide Fuji print under matte acrylic in a slimline frame, or a giclée print on Hahnemühle Pearl paper mounted on ALDibond in an artbox frame, both with a 75-year color guarantee. Full print specifications and materials →
