Passing — Framed Manhattan Bridge Black & White Fine Art Photography Print | Richard H Knight

Passing — DUMBO, Brooklyn

Photographed from DUMBO, Brooklyn, on a tripod-mounted Nikon D800 with a 70–200mm lens at 70mm, this image of the Manhattan Bridge is as much about time as it is about architecture. A 1/8-second exposure at f/5 and ISO 100 — just long enough to blur a single figure walking across the frame into a ghost of motion, a human presence that anchors the scale of the bridge without competing with it. The effect is deliberate: the bridge is fixed, permanent, monumental; the figure is passing through, here and gone.

The composition frames the bridge's iconic steel cables and towers against the New York sky, the long exposure rendering the scene with a stillness that street photography rarely achieves. It is an image that sits at the intersection of architectural photography and fine art — precise in its technical execution, but with an atmospheric quality that makes it feel more like a painting than a document.

At 24×36″, the bridge's structural detail, the texture of the cables, and the ghosted figure are all fully legible — a print that rewards extended viewing. The cool urban palette of steel, sky, and stone works naturally in contemporary, industrial, and corporate interiors.

Available in two gallery-quality configurations — a silver halide Ilford print under matte acrylic in a slimline frame, or a giclée print on Hahnemühle Pearl paper mounted on ALDibond in an artbox frame, both with a 75-year guarantee. Full print specifications and materials →
